Sensory and Emotional Regulation Tools and Supports Sessions – 12th & 19th October 2023

Tailor Ed is running a sensory and emotional regulation workgroup in October.

The first session is a parent information and explore session, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn about sensory needs and then have the opportunity to explore different tools. Two sessions will run on the 12th October in the morning, 10.30-12pm then again in the afternoon 1pm-2.30pm.

On 19th October we will be running the group with the children/young people in attendance where they will have the opportunity to experience various sensory tools including messy play, sensory tent amongst others. Each family will be allocated an hour to explore!

If you would like to join either session, please contact Kirstin at kirstin.brady@tailoredfoundation.co.uk and we’ll arrange a time slot for you. Please be aware we have limited spaces, but we do hope to repeat these sessions again next year if you do not receive a space this time. Thank you!

DATES: Sessions will be held at 10.30am-12pm and 1pm-2.30pm on Thursday 12th October, and again at hourly slots on Thursday 19th October 2023.

Online Parent Information Sessions – Autumn 23

Tailor Ed are running a series of Online Parent Training Sessions – this includes dates for our 4 session groups exploring Zones of Regulation, plus a range of other topics including a new session this series that is an overview on  supporting wellbeing for autistic children and young people. We’ll look to continue to develop new sessions in response to your requests.

Zones of Regulation (4 part course, max 6 participants per group – which can include 2 parents on one Zoom call)

Spend 4 sessions in a small group developing an understanding of the Zones approach to supporting emotional recognition and regulation skills. With plenty time for questions and discussion we’ll look to help you build your own Zones plan to help with daily life. Sessions take place online for an hour each time. Spaces in this group are limited, so please email ndwell@tailoredfoundation.co.uk to reserve a place.

Group 1 – 1pm on 30/8, 6/9, 13/9, 20/9

Group 2 – 8pm on 31/8, 7/9, 14/9, 21/9

Group 3 – 1pm on 8/11, 15/11, 22/11, 29/11

Group 4 – 8pm on 9/11, 16/11, 23/11, 30/11

Parent Information Sessions

These 1 hour online sessions provide parents and carers an opportunity to hear about specific topics that may be impacting the wellbeing of their child. All approached with a neurodivergent lens, we’ll share our knowledge and experience of some common challenges and the approaches and supports that can help. These sessions are full of information but there’s also the opportunity to ask questions.

Support & Training for Leisure Providers in Edinburgh

The Disability Strategic Group have recently been working with Roo from Tailor Ed to help organisations in Edinburgh with making their services, clubs and classes more accessible and inclusive for children and young people with Additional Support Needs.

Earlier in the spring, they did a fantastic job of delivering a full day of training to a whole range of leisure providers e.g. sports clubs, social groups, creative arts organisations, who are now better equipped to deliver the accessible opportunities which the city desperately needs.

Parent Information Sessions

Based on feedback from parents and the areas we’re commonly supporting autistic children and young people with, our ND:well Team are providing the following sessions. All sessions run twice with identical content, one during the day and one in the evening. Parents/carers can attend whichever session is most convenient.

Dates & Details of the Sessions are:

  • Sharing with your child that they are neurodivergent

    • Spend time exploring the process of helping your child understand their diagnosis with practical suggestions on how to approach what can feel like a daunting task
    • Wednesday 17th May at 1pm / Thursday 18th May at 8pm
  • Sleep

    • Learn all about sleep, how it works and sometimes doesn’t and consider what practical steps you can take to help promote better rest for your child
    • Thursday 25th May at 1pm / Thursday 25th May
  • Energy management

    • Hear about how life as an autistic individual can have different energy requirements and learn about about some tools to help plan and manage energy to support wellbeing
    • Wednesday 7th June at 1pm / Thursday 8th June at 8pm
  • Emotion regulation

    • Hear about the various ways we can make sense of emotions and how to support regulation
    • Wednesday 21st June at 1pm / Thursday 22nd June at 8pm
  • Zones of Regulation – 4 part course

    • Take part in 4 sessions to develop a deep understanding of emotion regulation and how to build a toolbox of strategies to support your child to understand and regulate their feelings using the Zones of Regulation approach
    • Dates are TBC

Appointments Workgroups for Target Specific Families

Tailor Ed are running 3 sessions in late February and early March for our Target Specific families, aiming to support them with attending Appointments.

Dates of the Workgroups are:

  • 21st February – in-person information/training for parents 10.30-12 (Venue TBC)
  • 22nd   February – online parent information/training for parents – Zoom meeting 8-9pm
  • 3rd March to the 24th March – 2-4pm, Venue:  Millar Hall, 2 Nether Liberton Lane, Edinburgh EH16 5TY (next door to Cameron Toll) 

The Target Specific team will be running an appointments workgroup starting at the end of February and running through-out March. The aim of the workgroup is to support attending appointments such as the dentist, doctors/hospital, hairdressers and opticians. We will look at different de-sensitising activities, alongside waiting and other factors of appointments we know can be tricky!

The workgroup will begin with information and training for parents, which will be held in person, and repeated online for those who can’t manage. Following this, sessions will run 2-4pm on Friday afternoons with your children/young people for 4 weeks.
